Josep Borrell, the EU's 28-nation bloc's foreign policy chief, said China's arming of Russia would "cross the final line" in the EU's relationship with Beijing. He gave this warning on Monday.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in an interview with CBS News that China is considering supplying Russia with lethal weapons for use in the Ukraine war. If Beijing does so, it will have dire consequences, he warned.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is known to be a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. China has yet to condemn Russia's operation in Ukraine. Beijing has maintained a neutral stance on the issue. They have been calling for an end to the conflict and the establishment of peace.

The US Secretary of State gave this interview to CBS News after a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference last Saturday. Blinken said the meeting expressed deep concern about the possibility of China supplying Russia with lethal weapons.

The US Secretary of State said, 'To date, we have seen Chinese companies supplying non-lethal weapons to Russia for use in Ukraine. It is a matter of deep concern that the information we have now that they are considering providing lethal weapons.'

Anthony Blinken did not elaborate on what information the US has about China's plans. Asked what the U.S. thinks China can offer Russia, Blinken said it could initially be arms and ammunition.
