Seven people were killed by a gunman in the US state of California. The attacks happened Monday in two separate areas outside the coastal town of Half Moon Bay, about 30 miles south of San Francisco. The suspected attacker has since surrendered. BBC News.
The latest attack comes just two days after a gunman killed 11 people during a Chinese New Year celebration at a popular dance hall in California. The man arrested as the suspected attacker is Zhao Chunli. He is 67 years old. He is a resident of the Half Moon Bay area.
According to various media footage, the suspect surrendered to the San Mateo Sheriff's Office about two hours after the attack on Monday. Four dead bodies were recovered from a mushroom farm at 2:22 pm. Monday Later, three more bodies were recovered from a nearby truck rental company.
Investigators have yet to say what led to the attack.
The suspect drove to a local police station around 4:40 p.m., San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus said at a news conference. He was later arrested.
A semi-automatic pistol was recovered from the attacker. It is believed to have been used in the attack.
Corpus also said that another person injured in the attack is being treated at the hospital. His condition is critical. California Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a Twitter post that he was speaking with former shooting victims at the hospital after learning of the shooting in the Half Moon Bay area. Then he had to rush there to report the incident.
