Supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stormed the country's presidential palace and carried weapons. This incident happened yesterday Sunday. A member of the cabinet of the country's new president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, complained.
In video footage posted on Twitter, Brazil's Communications Minister Paulo Pimenta said, "We are now in the institutional security office. There are briefcases with both lethal and non-lethal weapons. Criminals (Bolsonaro supporters) have stolen the briefcases."
However, the government did not provide the number of weapons taken by Bolsonaro supporters who stormed the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. Meanwhile, police said at least 200 people were detained during and after the attacks on the Congress, Supreme Court, and Rashtrapati Bhavan.
On Sunday afternoon, thousands of right-wing supporters of Jair Bolsonaro stormed the Congress building, the presidential palace, and the Supreme Court in the Brazilian capital Brasilia. They took part in the attack wearing the country's national colors and the national flag. The attack was similar to the violence carried out by supporters of former US President Donald Trump at the Capitol.
Bolsonaro was defeated by leftist Lula da Silva in last October's election. But his supporters did not accept this defeat. Lula da Silva has sworn in as president a week ago. He alleged that the attack was fueled by Bolsonaro.
