Players who have impressed during the respective qualifying periods have been narrowed down to three outstanding candidates in seven categories, while selections will be made for the FIFA FIFPRO Men's and Women's World XI. Three fans or groups of fans have been nominated for the FIFA Fan Award and the winner of the FIFA Fair Play Award will also be announced. This year will be the seventh FIFA Football Awards ceremony to be held since its inception in 2016, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Manuel Neuer, and Megan Rapinoe all successful in recent years.

The final men's and women's FIFA FIFPRO World 11 selections will also be revealed from a total of 26 and 23 nominees respectively.
The World XI is decided by which goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards have the most votes. The final spot is awarded to the player in the field who received the most votes outside the initial 10.
The FIFA Fair Play Award will be awarded to at least one recipient who has demonstrated exemplary behavior during the year that promotes the spirit of the game. It can be a fan, team, player, manager, federation, or awarded to multiple winners.
