North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile on Monday. The country launched a ballistic missile for the second time in less than 48 hours. This is what the South Korean military said.
The United States and South Korea held joint military exercises on Sunday. North Korea launched a ballistic missile the day after this exercise.
North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile toward the East Sea (Sea of Japan) today, the country's state news agency Yonhap reported, citing South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The East Sea is part of Japan's territorial waters. The Japanese Prime Minister's Office tweeted this morning. It said they suspected North Korea had fired a ballistic missile.
Japan's coast guard said the missile had already fallen into the sea. But they did not say anything in detail about it.
The United States and South Korea held joint air drills yesterday. The two allies conducted the exercise in response to North Korea's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) last Saturday.
South Korea's military said the missile was fired into the East Sea from Pyongyang's Sunan area early Saturday morning.
According to Japan, the ICBMT falls within its exclusive economic zone.
About the ICBMT, North Korea says it is a Huasong-15 missile. It was part of a spectacular exercise to demonstrate Pyongyang's capabilities.
