Kuwait Oil Company has declared a 'state of emergency' after a pipeline belonging to the state oil company burst. However, no one was injured and oil production was disrupted in this incident.
The state-owned company said in a statement that the incident took place in the western part of the country.
Oil company spokesman Qusai Al-Amer said there were no casualties. Pipeline ruptures on land. But it is not a residential area.
Al-Amer declined to reveal the exact location of the pipeline leak. He said that a team has been sent to investigate the source of the leak and the incident.
Kuwait's Al Rai newspaper published a video on Twitter. Oil is seen spilling from thick pipes on dry barren land. However, AFP could not verify the authenticity of this video.
Kuwait is one of the largest oil-producing countries in the world. 90 percent of the country's government revenue comes from this oil. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) member country recently produced 2.7 million barrels of oil per day.
Previously, in 2016 and 2020, Kuwait Oil Company reported oil spills due to pipeline ruptures.
