By-elections will be held in 33 seats of the National Assembly of Pakistan next March. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to participate in this election. Former Pakistan Prime Minister and PTI chief Imran Khan will contest in all 33 seats. Khabar Express Tribune
PTI's senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in a press conference in the capital Islamabad on Sunday, "We have decided to participate in by-elections in 33 constituencies." Imran Khan will be the candidate of our party in all seats. He said this decision after the joint meeting of the central and parliamentary committees of the party under the chairmanship of Imran Khan.

Earlier this month, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhary said that PTI has taken a big decision to participate in the upcoming by-elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan announced last Friday that by-elections will be held on March 16 for the 33 vacant seats in the National Assembly. These seats fell vacant due to the open resignation of PTI MPs. Now by-elections are being held in these constituencies within 90 days as per the constitutional obligation.

In yesterday's meeting, PTI leaders discussed the current political and economic situation in the country. The meeting also condemned the arrest of PTI leader and former Information Minister Fawad Ahmed Hussain Chowdhury. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said, "We hope he (Fawad Chowdhury) will get justice and be released soon."

Imran Khan-led coalition government in Pakistan's National Assembly collapsed after a no-confidence vote by the opposition in April last year. A coalition government was then formed in Pakistan under the leadership of Muslim League Nawaz (MLN) leader Shahbaz Sharif. This government survives with a narrow majority.

Imran Khan has created a massive movement across the country against the coalition government led by Shahbaz Sharif. He is demanding early elections in Pakistan.
